Scientific support
Vahatra participates in helping with the reinforcement of conservation biology on Madagascar by actively collaborating with different organizations working or associated with this domain. A few examples include:
- System of Protected Areas of Madagascar (SAPM) – working for the creation and delimitation of new protected areas on Madagascar.
- Ambatovy-Sherritt International − helping with the establishment of a Biodiversity Business Operational Program (BBOP).
- REBIOMA – helping with the up-dating of a database associated with Malagasy biodiversity.
- Tany Meva and UNESCO World Heritage program – biological evaluation and analysis of human pressures in a new UNESCO site.
- Madascar National Parks – scientific aid in evaluating biodiversity and training of field agents.
- CITES – helping with the compilation of data concerning Malagasy taxa.
- Ministry of the Environment – helping with the preparation of national report for the Convention on Biodiversity.
- The Peregrine Fund - Capacity building for conservation agents and students - This project is generously funded by Helmsley Charitable Trust (HCT) and the objectives are:
- Strengthening the capacity of technicians working with conservation organizations in the field of conservation, specifically those associated with projects funded by the HCT.
- Training and advancement of students working in biology and conservation biology to better prepare new generations of Malagasy biologists.
- Implementation of biological inventories at scientifically poorly known sites in order to advance science and ecological research in Madagascar.
