Scientific Support
Vahatra actively participates in strengthening biodiversity conservation in Madagascar by collaborating closely with various institutions working in or associated with this field. Here are some examples:
- Madagascar Protected Areas System (SAPM) – contribution to the creation and delimitation of new Protected Areas in Madagascar.
- Ambatovy Sherritt International − contribution in implementing the BBOP (Biodiversity Business Operational Program).
- REBIOMA – contribution to updating the database on Malagasy biodiversity.
- Tany Meva and World Heritage – Eco-biological evaluation and analysis of pressures, threats and potentialities.
- PNM – Eco-biological evaluation and analysis of pressures, threats and potentialities – contribution to scientific support and training of PNM agents.
- CITES – Contribution to compiling data for CITES through information support to the Permanent Secretariat, scientific authority and management body.
- Ministry of Environment – contribution in preparing the national report for the CBD (Convention on Biological Diversity).
- The Peregrine Fund - Capacity building for conservation agents and students - This project is generously funded by Helmsley Charitable Trust with the following objectives:
- Capacity building for technicians working with conservation organizations that are also funded by this foundation.
- Training and mentoring students in conservation biology and biological and ecological field investigations to better prepare new generations of Malagasy biologists.
- Conducting biological inventories in scientifically poorly known sites to advance science and eco-biological research in Madagascar.
